Appearance: Deep brown in color with a garnet hue, solid 1 inch beige colored head
Aroma: classic english-style barley wine, dark fruit, cherry, fig, with sweet bready malts
Taste: bready molasses, caramel, fig/prune/raisin, distinctly dry oaky, slightly boozy finish
Body: moderate medium body but a full mouthfeel and a lasting woody/alcohol finish
Overall: I like this Classic English-Style Barley Wine. Flying Dog knocks it out of the park with this one, and with that ABV it’s asking to *lay down for a bit and mature. This beer is awesome fresh but would only grow in sophistication with maturity.
*just a side note. if you do want to age this beer keep it in a cool dark place and leave it standing upright. ‘Lay Down’ is a borrowed wine term for aging to maturity.
