First Home Brew Review

IMG_0815

Imperial Stout aged in a Bourbon Barrel- 12.5% brewed by Jared DeMent

Appearance: dark black with a thin head as expected with such a heavy ABV

Aroma: bourbon forward, chocolate like a tootsie roll, caramel, vanilla

Taste: big chocolate, bourbon, caramel (like I had caramel candy in my mouth when trying it), fig and cherry notes, many layers of complexity, booziness but not off-putting, sweet but not a dessert beer.

Body: thick sticky body, full mouthfeel, low on the carbonation

Overall: If you get a chance listen to the Video Review on the Facebook Basic Beer Blog page, It’s as I am tasting it and has much more detail. As one with Misophonia I must apologize for the slurping and smacking on the video… it’s how you taste beer. This beer was excellent and it blew me away. I’m excited to try more beer by Jared and see what other wonders he pulls off. (Not to set the bar to high for him, but it’s his fault!)
